Copyright & Intellectual Property Policy

Pre-launch draft · not effective. Before launch, counsel must complete the notice address, any jurisdiction-specific safe-harbour steps, and the counter-notice procedure. This policy complements the Terms of Service; it does not transfer ownership of user content to Mahanu.

1. Rights in content

Members retain the rights they hold in their work. They are responsible for having permission to add material to a project, make it available to members, and deliberately publish it. A project owner must not treat membership as permission to publish another member’s work.

Mahanu receives only the limited service and publication permissions described in the Terms. Mahanu’s name, logos, and other brand assets are not granted for reuse except under any separate published brand rules. The software is governed by its MIT license, not this policy.

A project may set its own content license — a short label and a link to full terms in its card, shown on its published pages — to tell readers how its prose and art may be reused; the platform records and displays that choice but does not set, own, or override it. Mahanu’s own project content terms are published at /LICENSE.html.

2. Copyright notices

For material available on a Mahanu public card or public page, send a copyright notice to [email protected] with:

  1. identification of the copyrighted work;
  2. the exact URL or enough information to locate the challenged material;
  3. your contact information;
  4. a good-faith statement that the use is not authorised; and
  5. any statements or signature required by the applicable jurisdiction.

We assess complete notices under applicable law, may ask for more information, and may restrict or remove public material while reviewing. We do not disclose private project content merely because a notice asks for it.

3. Responses and repeat misuse

The affected project receives the notice and an opportunity to respond when appropriate and lawful. The effective procedure must give a valid counter-notice route where required, explain restoration timing, and name a registered designated agent if a U.S. safe-harbour process is used. Repeated or egregious infringement may lead to the actions in the Acceptable Use Policy.
