The Home Studio

idea to finished track, at home

Learn music production โ€” recording, arranging, mixing, and mastering โ€” until a track can go from idea to finished in a home studio.

A copy carries over only the public parts you see here โ€” the owners' private files never leave their own vaults.

๐Ÿšง Draft โ€” not final. This page was auto-generated as day-one scaffolding for the project and still needs a human pass before it reads as finished. The blanks and placeholders below are intentional โ€” someone who runs this project should fill them in and delete this notice.

Track 01 โ€” first finish

The whole point of Track 01 is to reach exported โ€” a real file, start to end โ€” not to be good. Scope kept deliberately tiny so finishing is possible in a weekend, not a season.

Scope

  • Length: eight bars, looped into a ~1-minute arrangement (intro โ†’ main โ†’ out).
  • Instruments: three, no more โ€” drums, a bass, one melodic part.
  • Rule: no new plugin, no new gear, no "just one more layer" until it's exported once.

Pipeline (tick as it moves)

  • Idea โ€” tempo, key, and the one-line feel ("late-night, warm, unhurried")
  • Arrangement โ€” the eight bars laid out; intro/main/out marked
  • Mix โ€” levels balanced, nothing clipping; one reference track A/B'd against it
  • Master โ€” a single limiter for loudness, ears rested before the final listen
  • Export โ€” bounced to a file, dated, filed in assets/

Learned (fill as you go)

  • (what the mix taught โ€” e.g. "the bass and kick were fighting until I high-passed the bass")
  • (what to do differently on Track 02)
